What to look for - Week TWO

Week number 2 in the NFL is just days away, and you need to know what you can look for this weekend.
Before we get to WTLF, here are a few important player updates:

Ben Roethlisberger practiced Wednesday, so it looks like he's a go.
Steve Smith did not practice....he probably won't play.
Mike Holmgren is looking for Deion Branch to sit this week as he continues to learn the system.
Mike Vanderjagt is off the injury report, so he should be on the field this weekend.
T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Hines Ward are both listed as probable.
The Texans and Packers traded RBs on Wednesday. Houston receives Samkon Gado, and the Packers get Vernand Morency. This trade actually helps the fantasy value of both players. Gado should get into the mix as a part of the RBBC situation in Houston....if he shines (like he has in the past) who knows where it could go. Morency is again playing back up, but if Ahman Green stays healthy for the whole season it will be a surprise.

WTLF- WEEK 2

HOU @ IND
Look for Houston to play catchup all day, making Lundy a bust this week.
Look for another solid day from Andre Johnson.
Look for the Colts running game to at least double their yardage from a week ago.

CAR @ MIN
Look for Delhomme to continue to struggle without his go-to-guy.
Look for more yards for Foster and a TD this week.
Look for Troy Williamson to be the best WR on the field, especially if he can stop dropping the pill.
Look for Chester Taylor to take a dip in his output from last week.

BUF @ MIA
Look for Losman to break 200 yards and a TD.
Look for McGahee's output to be less than last week.

Look for Steven Jackson to keep it up....not another 121 yards though.
Look for Gore to get it done again baby!
Look for the 49ers to get the W.

KC @ DEN
Look for KC to look just horrible w/o Green.
Look for Larry Johnson to get a ton of carries, but still struggle.
Look for less output form the Bellboys.
Look for Javon Walker to have the best WR #s on the field...now stop dropping the stinking ball!

NE @ NYJ
Look for big running days for the NE backs again.
Look for nothing special from Brady.
Look for Pennington to have another good game.
Look for this game to actually be close.

TEN @ SD
Look for Collins to do better this week...but,
Look for TEN to have as much trouble finding the endzone as I do benching 100 lbs.

Yes, week 2! I wish the NFL would have Thursday games every week. I know it would be a scheduling nightmare, but the league is for the fans, right?

Is it just me, or are more teams spreading the rushing ball around? By my count, 17 teams give 1/3 or more of the carries to multiple backs. Now, I personally don't like RBBC, but more NFL coaches are relying less on one guy. I believe this will extend a RB's career while keeping fresh legs on the field more often. Some teams have to rely on one guy because they have to. Others have the luxury of giving the ball to multiple guys. Take for instance San Diego. Tomlinson carried the ball 31 times out of the 45 total rushes. Who got the bulk of the other 14? Turner did. Look at last weeks numbers for most of the games and you'll see this trend. How this affects Fantasy Football is evident. Unless you have one or two of the top 10 RB's on your team, the only way to separate you and your opponent is through other positions. This is because the RB position for the majority are more evenly distributed. Does this make the value of kickers rise on your roster now? According to last week's numbers, maybe it should.

Something to be aware of later in the season is "Flex Scheduling." If you have circled all your favorite team games and the times they are playing, you may want to take a look at the following link:

You maybe surprised what the NFL and ther networks are doing this year.

Since I'm a Northwest guy, I think the Seattle/Arizona game is interesting. Seattle played down to the competition last week, but I believe both teams will cause the other to play aggressively which makes for great football. Unfortunately, CBS, NBC or ESPN aren't televising this game. I'd look for a combined score of 60 or more. Another interesting but much closer game will be Pit vs Jax. I just like the matchup up and down the rosters. This one is being televised Monday night (ESPN).

I love this blog and since this is my second day in a row of quality contribution, I'm ready for my bonus!

The check is in the mail.
Good points AG, watching the schedule this year is going to be huge...especially with NFLN taking games too.

As for RBBC...as a fantasy football coach, I hate it....but for the real teams the benefits can't be ignored.
