Pete's Picks...Week 2

Alright something is wrong with my blog, but hopefully this will post...if not I'm sure I'll here about it later!

Before my picks here are a few hot items:

-I keep getting different stories regarding Deion Branch with the latest report saying that he probably will play, but with the uncertainty AND the fact that he's learning a new system it might be wise to have him sit this week....or it might be stupid.

-Don't use Mike Vanderjagt this week.....trust me. Dallas may keep two kickers active for week 2.

-Carnell Williams is still having problems with his back. You better make sure he's playing before you submit him in your lineup.

-Brian Westbrook is about as durable as a raw egg, and he left practice early with knee problems and is probable. Given his health issues you better monitor this before submitting your lineup as well. I will be benching him in my work league for Frank Gore just to be sure......Gore's a stud anyway.

-TJ Houshmandzadeh has become a ? as well.

As always track these situations!

Here are my week 2 NFL picks for those of you going to Vegas this weekend.

BUF @ MIA
Losman just plain stinks, and Miami has too many weapons.
C-pep will only continue to improve.
MIA

CAR @ MIN
This one's easy. It looks like Steve Smith won't be playing.
No Smith = No win.
MIN

CLE @ CIN
Cleveland couldn't do anything against a sub-playoff team last week, expect more of the same when they head to Cincy. The Bengals will roll!
CIN

DET @ CHI
Many are actually picking DET to win because of what the DF did to SEA last week.
I'm not buying it, we all know it's the CHI D that wins the games.
CHI

HOU @ IND
I hope the Colts and Bengals are enjoying their bye-weeks.
IND's running game is in a state of emergency, but Manning will have a field day.
IND

NO @ GB
NO actaully let CLE drop 14 points on them, so GB will get theirs. The fact that GBs DF actually made Grossman look like an actual NFL QB make me think Brees and co. will drop some serious points.
NO

NYG @ PHI
Here's another good scoring game. I'm really big on PHIs passing game, but the Giants have an impressive squad as well.
I like the Eagles in a close one.
PHI

OAK @ BAL
I like nothing about the Raiders. Even Lamont Jordan is losing his value over last year. Meanwhile the Ravens looked good week 1, and Lewis should have another solid game.
BAL

TB @ ATL
I don't know what Gruden sees in Simms, but I just don't think they can win with this guy....he has flashes of brilliance, but nothing to carry a team. ATL is moving in the right direction, and I think they will be in the mix all year.
ATL

ARI @ SEA
As a fantasy owner I love me some offense, and this game is going to have plenty.
I don't think Hasselbeck and company are going to allow what happened to them last week to happen again.
SEA in a shootout.

STL @ SF
I hear everyone saying the Rams are going to win this because of what their DF did last week. Well SF held up with ARI alright, and their DF isn't a group of special kids. I think SF will not only hang with the Rams, but they will win this game.
SF

KC @ DEN
I really think the Cheifs look like a mess right now, and the injury to Green obviously makes them worse. The Broncos (mostly Plummer) are desperate to get rid of what happened in week 1, and try to keep pace in this suddenly suspect division.
DEN

NE @ NYJ
NE looked just plain bad last week. Maybe putting the team before the players is starting to catch up with them. Pennington looked like a premier stud last week, and if he can keep it up the city of Boston is going to have two things to whine about.
NE in a close one.

TEN @ SD
As a Tomlinson owner I love this game. The Titans are in a rebuilding year behind a QB who never was really all that good. If Rivers can become an above average QB, the Chargers are going to be big-time contenders.
SD

WAS @ DAL
Bledsoe is in the same boat as Plummber....he better get it done soon. Washington's got all the pieces; RB, WRs, DF....what's missing? A QB who can break 200 yards and a TD every once in a while. Bledsoe rebounds, and the Skins go to 0-2.
DAL

PIT @ JAX
No disrespect to the defending SuperBowl champions, but I'm just not sold on a repeat. It looks like Roethlisberger may actually play, but with what Batch did last week why rush? The Jaguars have a healthy Fred Taylor(for now), good receivers and their DF is impressing......but the Steelers keep getting it done, so...
PIT

Pete's Week 2 all Fantasy Team:
(Please note I am not taking more than 1 player from any team, and I won't bestow this honor two weeks in a row)
QB- P. Manning
RB1- LaDanian Tomlinson
RB2- Shuan Alexander
WR1- Larry Fitzgerald
WR2- Antonio Bryant
TE- Kellen Winslow Jr.
K- Jeff Reed
DF- BAL

There you go.
Hope you have enjoyed this week's editions.
Make sure to get all your lineups in, and have a great weekend.
Enjoy the games, and I'll see you Sunday night!

Pete

You used Chris Simms and the word brilliance in the same thought. What were you thinking? I really have a problem with people who throw around these type of words for "literary fodder."

Favre used to be brilliant;
Peyton Manning can be considered brilliant;
Joe Montana, Troy Aikman, Dan Marino can be considered brilliant;
Terry Bradshaw, as a quarterback, was brilliant.

Please, please, please when trying to use descriptive characteristics, try matching an appropiate word to the person you're referring to. Mr. Simms doesn't make the cut.

I'm done choking now and breathing normally...don't do that again!

"Literary Fodder"?
That's what this blog was built on!
It was actually called "Literary Fodder Nightly", but it didn't flow like the current name.

AG, you know I love you, but go back and read what I wrote about Simms.
I said "he has flashed of brilliance" and I stand by that statement.
I never said that he was brilliant, but he has had what I would consider brilliant drives....even brilliant games.

Last year against the Redskins he threw for 279 yards and 3 TDs...his QB rating was well over 100...anyone who has a game like that in the NFL isn't doing a misjustice to the phrase "flashes of brilliance".
Is he brilliant? No
Is he even a good QB? No
I think he is one of the top 3 starting QBs in the league who should be backing someone up.
